[MIAMI] – A Florida Man was arrested on multiple charges including bank fraud after using part of nearly $4 million in PPP loans to buy a Lamborghini and other high-end luxury items.
29-year old David Hines of Miami was arrested and charged with bank fraud, making false statements to a financial institution an engaging in transactions in unlawful proceeds.
According to a criminal complaint, Hines applied for nearly $13.5 million in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans for multiple companies. Fraudulent loan applications were also submitted for the companies payroll expenses. He was approved for a total of $3.9 million in loans.
According to prosecutors, Hines bought the Lamborghini withing days of receiving the money. Instead of using the funds for payroll as intended, The Florida Man made multiple purchases at resorts and luxury retailers in Miami. When he was arrested, authorities seized the car and approx. $3.4 million.
Hines was held over the weekend at the Federal Detention Center and granted a $100,000 bond. His arraignment is currently scheduled for Oct. 14. [Read More]
